"How often should you blog? However much you want. It’s your site, your house, your garden. Pick your metaphor. Unless you require the approval of third parties to continue to write on the Internet1, do what feels right. Write the occasional deep dive. Write multiple short posts per day. Go decades without posting.

The beauty of blogging is its simplicity. Text goes out into the world. There may be feeds or newsletters involved, or not. People read the text, and they move on. Or they reach out to you. Or they write their own posts linking back to yours.

It’s beautiful, it’s vibrant and it will continue to exist long after the monolithic walled gardens have crumbled into dust, along with all of their content.

Reject those walled gardens, stake your claim of a domain and do as little or as much with it as you'd like. Write, read, connect with others, send emails, embrase POSSE, or don't. The Web is so much larger than it appears to be these days.

All it takes is for you to look beyond. Start with a link, follow its trail until you get lost, then never come back to a place where your attention is directed by shareholders, by VC money, towards what gets you mad and glued to the screen in a haze, scrolling through content that never ends and means nothing."
